The concept of creating new words or giving new meanings to existing words to avoid using loanwords or internationalisms which look - and sometimes also are - English, has a parallel in the spelling system of Afrikaans: many such words are dressed up in Afrikaans garb, presumably because it is believed that they will then be more readily accepted as part and parcel of Afrikaans, or alternatively, because they have already attained that status and recognition thereof is expressed in the new spelling.
